SACRAMENTO, Calif. —

Hundreds of Blue Diamond Growers employees in Sacramento will lose their jobs after the company announced Friday that it will shut down operations at its Midtown plant.

Blue Diamond said it plans to streamline its operations at its Turlock and Salida locations because the roughly 50-acre Sacramento plant has become "too costly and inefficient."

In a news release, Blue Diamond president and CEO Kai Bockmann said he met with Sacramento plant members Friday morning and shared the move will begin later this year. The winding down of operations will go through phases during the next 18 to 24 months, impacting about 600 employees.
