TOLEDO, Ohio — The city of Toledo raised the Pride flag Friday morning at One Government Center in celebration of Pride Month.
This is the eighth year that the flag has been flown, which the city says shows a commitment to supporting the LGBTQIA+ community.
Due to weather and construction, the celebration was moved indoors, but Mayor Wade Kapszukiewicz said he wanted to have a “proper ceremony to talk about how important it is to celebrate everyone in our community and how important it is to welcome everyone into our community”.
Kapszukiewicz mentioned how the Pride flag is a powerful symbol recognizing that the city is better and stronger as a community.
The flag will be up until the end of the month, but the celebration does not end in June. Toledo Pride will take place from August 1
