When Grade 12 student Wes Klippenstein heard his name announced at the Skills Canada National Competition in Regina, he could hardly believe it.

“It was very exciting,” said the young electrician-in-training from the Altona area. “I went up on stage and thought, wow, is this really happening? It felt surreal.”

He had just won gold in Electrical Installations — one of 40 skill areas featured in Canada’s largest skilled trades and technology competition. Representing Team Manitoba, he outperformed 8 other top competitors in a two-day challenge that tested wiring, measurements, and installation precision.

Held at Regina’s REAL District from May 28 to 31, the Skills Canada National Competition (SCNC) brought together over 500 students and apprentices from across Canada.
