Suspended Osceola County Sheriff Marcos Lopez, jailed Thursday on racketeering charges , must post a $1 million bond if he wants to be free while awaiting trial on charges he allegedly helped run a clandestine casino before and during his time as sheriff, a judge said Friday.
Judge Emily Curington set the bond — $500,000 for each of his charges, racketeering and conspiracy to commit racketeering — during Lopez’s first appearance Friday, over the objections of his attorney Mary Ibrahim, who asked for bail to be set at $50,000.
During the hearing, Statewide Prosecutor Pangiota Papakos referenced a 225-page affidavit laying out the accusations against Lopez, who investigators said began his involvement with the illegal casino in 2019.
