LAREDO, Tex. (KGNS) - The city of Laredo is hosting its first Don Quijote Sin Fronteras Festival, a free two-day event celebrating art, music, and the famous Spanish book Don Quixote .

The idea for the festival came from the Festival Internacional Cervantino in Guanajuato, Mexico, which has been held for decades. Marco Franco, a local Spanish teacher and head of the planning group, said he went to the early Cervantino festivals as a teen and wanted to bring something like that to Laredo.

“We formed a committee with Malena Charur and Alberto Guajardo, and thanks to their work and the support from the Mexican Consulate in Laredo, we’ve put together five main events,” Franco said.

The festival opens Friday, June 6, at 6 p.m. at the Instituto Cultural Mexicano, located at the Outlet Shopp
