CHESAPEAKE, Va. — Two Democratic candidates are hoping to flip Virginia's 89th District, which includes parts of both Chesapeake and Suffolk, come this November, but first one must succeed in the June primary.
Candidates Kacey Carnegie and Blaizen Buckshot Bloom both emphasized family when describing their motivation to run for office.
"Watching the chaos that's currently going on in Washington, I wanted to make sure my daughters were protected, that Chesapeake and Suffolk are protected. Making sure that they're not going to have less rights than I did growing up," said Carnegie.
For Bloom, watching their mom work multiple jobs to provide for the family pushed them to create change.
