The Boston Red Sox don’t have many things going right, but there are still occasional moments that can make even the most alienated fans smile.

Marcelo Mayer’s first big league home run , for instance.

Mayer launched one way into the short porch at Yankee Stadium in Friday night’s series-opening loss to the New York Yankees — a hefty shot that helped kickstart a half-hearted rally.

Roman Anthony, his former teammate and roommate, is still working on his craft down in Triple-A Worcester, so he missed the moment live. Polar Park gave him some tremendous ambiance when he did finally watch it , though, at its fireworks show went off in the background while he passed around his phone like a proud parent.
