Foster elected bishop of Metropolitan N.Y. Synod

KINGSTON, N.Y. — The Rev. Dr. Katrina D. Foster was elected Saturday, May 3. to be the bishop of the Metropolitan New York Synod of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America for six years.

Three Kingston Lutheran Churches are members of the Metropolitan New York Synod: Immanuel Lutheran, Redeemer Lutheran, and Trinity Lutheran.

Since 2015, Foster has been the pastor at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Brooklyn, working with diverse communities — from busy city neighborhoods to wealthier, changing areas — aiming to build lively, caring faith communities. She focuses on clear communication, setting expectations, and creating a positive work environment. She also values community, balance, and well-being.

She will be installed as bishop this
