For the softball team at Desert Hills High School, it seems like only yesterday that the Thunder played for their first 4A state championship.
Desert Hills stayed with Bear River pitch for pitch over the course of the series at Brigham Young University before falling to the Bears 3-2 in the eighth inning of a decisive Game 3 on May 16.
Desert Hills is the 4A state runner up for the second year in a row. Bear River, a perennial power in Region 11, won their 12th overall state softball championship.
The Thunder finished the season with an overall record of 32-4. They won Region 9 with a perfect 12-0 mark.
After the dust from the season settled and Region 9 coaches voted for the All Region softball team, the Thunder received the most recognition.
