Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum on Sunday expressed "solidarity" with the Mexican community in the US after raids by immigration authorities in the Los Angeles area.

US Immigration and Customs Enforcement have made more than 100 arrests in the city this week.

The Trump administration also deployed the National Guard following two days of protests that began Friday in downtown Los Angeles before spreading on Saturday to Paramount, a heavily Latino city south of the city, and neighboring Compton.

"We do not agree with this way of addressing the migration phenomenon," Sheinbaum said, speaking at the inauguration of a new hospital outside the city of Puebla. "That is our position, and it always calls for peace and nonviolence."

The president said she had already instructed the secretary of foreign affairs and the consular network to support any detained Mexicans.
