At its regular meeting Tuesday, the Gillette City Council voted 6-1 on the second reading of the city’s new open carry and concealed carry ordinance for city buildings, which would remove a number of bans against concealed carry except in law enforcement facilities, courtrooms or facilities containing explosive or volatile materials.
The effort to revise the ordinance comes on the heels of the passage of House Bill 172, the Wyoming Repeal Gun Free Zones Act, which specified that concealed carry were allowed in these cases, which will go into effect July 1.
Previously, the state law prohibited people from carrying a concealed firearm into a number of other buildings, including prisons, jails, government or legislative meetings, schools, non-gun related professional athletic events as well
