LAREDO, Tex. (KGNS) - Two men have pleaded guilty for their roles in a human smuggling ring that moved more than 65 people, including children as young as six, through South Texas.
27-year-old Manuel Capetillo and 31-year-old Michael Diaz entered their guilty pleas in February and March, respectively.
According to investigators, the men made over $50,000 in cash, operating stash houses in Laredo—with Capetillo also running one in Poteet. They reportedly hid migrants in inoperable vehicles placed on tow trucks to avoid detection.
As part of their sentencing, Capetillo will serve just over seven years in prison. Meanwhile, Diaz, a Laredo native, will serve nearly six years.
