GEORGETOWN COUNTY, S.C. (WCSC) - The Georgetown County Sheriff’s Office has announced that a standoff underway Monday afternoon has ended peacefully.

Sheriff’s spokesman Jason Lesley says that the armed person involved in the standoff left the home after nearly five hours of negotiations with the Georgetown County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies say the armed person barricaded himself in a home on St. Christopher Circle in the Pawleys Island area.

Deputies say that the person involved in the incident will undergo a mental health evaluation to determine any further action.

The family of the person involved, the community and the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division provided help and support.
