(AP) - The Pentagon has formally deployed about 700 Marines to Los Angeles to help National Guard members respond to immigration protests, U.S. Northern Command announced Monday.

The Marines are moving from their base at Twentynine Palms in the California desert on Monday.

President Donald Trump on Sunday ordered National Guard troops to the LA protests, an action California Attorney General Rob Bonta called “unlawful” and said “trampled” on the state’s sovereignty. Bonta sued the Trump administration Monday in response.
