CALICO ROCK, Ark. — Ex-police chief Grant Hardin was on the run for nearly two weeks after escaping from a medium-security prison in Izard County, Arkansas.

Hardin was serving sentences for murder and rape when he dressed in a makeshift law enforcement uniform and was let out of a secure gate by a prison employee.

A manhunt ensued, making national headlines and drawing in local, state, and federal law enforcement. The search was carried out by drone, on foot, by helicopter, and on horseback.

One of the major struggles throughout the search for Hardin was the weather. On the evening of his escape and throughout the manhunt, it rained across Calico Rock.

Officials said search dogs played a key role in looking for and eventually locating Hardin, and that the rain interfered.
