Police say two Canadian Armed Forces members were stabbed at a home in a town southeast of Edmonton, near the Saskatchewan border, on Thursday.

Alberta RCMP tells CityNews the stabbing in Wainwright was “part of a larger protracted incident.”

Police spokesperson Troy Savinkoff adds the victims did not know the suspect.

The two Canadian Armed Forces members had been taken to hospital with injuries when Mounties arrived on the scene shortly after 11:54 p.m. Both victims are expected to recover, according to police.

A 23-year-old man has charges pending for assault with a weapon and possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose.

The RCMP investigation into the incident is ongoing.

Wainwright is about 200 kilometres southeast of Edmonton. Both CAF members were stationed there.
