Erik Menendez has been diagnosed with a serious medical condition and is in the hospital, sources say.

According to reports , the 54-year-old is suffering from a serious medical condition and his attorney said he should be released from prison to get the proper treatment.

It is not known at this time what condition Menendez has or if it is life-threatening.

Brothers Erik and Lyle Menendez were originally sentenced to life in prison without parole for killing their parents in 1989; however, they were resentenced in May to 50 years to life in prison.

Both brothers are now eligible for parole and are expected to hear more information about their possibility for parole at a parole board hearing on Aug. 21.
