In a decisive 3-0 vote, the Buellton Planning Commission advanced a draft ordinance to the City Council, mandating that motel properties along Avenue of Flags, long used as residential rentals, revert to short-term motel use by Dec. 31.
The move, designed to revitalize Buellton’s commercial corridor, sparked detailed discussions on resident relocation and zoning compliance, with no public comments offered during the hearing.
City staff, led by Manager Scott Wolfe, presented the ordinance during the July 17 meeting , emphasizing its alignment with the Avenue of Flags Specific Plan.
“The intent is to allow revitalization of businesses and properties along the Avenue as a commercial corridor,” Wolfe said, noting that long-term residential use in motels, which began over a decade ago, v
