METAIRIE, La. (WLOX) - Cloudy weather wasn’t the only dark cloud hanging over Day 1 of the 2025 New Orleans Saints Training Camp.

Less than 24 hours after star safety Tyrann Mathieu announced his retirement from the NFL, the team took to the field for the first time without one of their proven leaders.

“A lot of respect to him,” stated runningback Alvin Kamara. “Happy I got to play with him. Good friend, good dude all around. I know he’s got something up his sleeve for what he’s doing next. I’ll be connected with him.”

Expectations on the outside were already low for the black and gold before the Honey Badger announced that he was hanging up the cleats. However, the veterans in the locker room continue to drown out the noise as camp continues to ramp up.
