A judge found five members of Canada’s 2018 world junior hockey team not guilty of sexual assault on Thursday.
The ruling came from Superior Court Justice Maria Carroccia, who said that the accuser’s evidence was not "credible or reliable," according to The Athletic .
A woman, known publicly as E.M., accused Michael McLeod, Carter Hart, Alex Formenton, Dillon Dube and Callan Foote of sexual assault, claiming that the assault occurred in 2018 at a hotel room in London, Ontario.
The judge made the ruling following a mistrial and dismissal of the jury.
“Having found that I cannot rely upon the evidence of E.M. and then considering the evidence in this trial as a whole, I conclude that the Crown cannot meet its onus on any of the counts before me,” Carroccia said, per The Athletic.
