ST. PAUL — Minnesota-based health insurance giant UnitedHealth confirmed Thursday that the company is under federal investigation and cooperating.

A July 24 press release from UnitedHealth said the company proactively reached out to the Department of Justice following “media reports” of investigations into their company regarding “aspects of the Company’s participation in the Medicare program.” The group confirmed Thursday that it’s officially complying with formal criminal and civil requests from the DOJ.
