Gov. Josh Shapiro got what amounted to about a half hour of free airtime on national TV when he appeared on “The Late Show” Thursday night with Stephen Colbert.

There were no tough questions — nothing about Israel or Colbert’s abrupt firing by CBS ahead of the Trump administration’s approval of its deal with Paramount — or even a nudge about Shapiro’s possible presidential aspirations.

The interview gave Shapiro the opportunity to talk at length about the personal and political: the arson attack that drove his family from the Governor’s Residence on Passover, his only unsuccessful campaign — for high school student council — and even his brief aspirations to be both a physician and NBA point guard.
