Micheal Ward, the acclaimed actor known for his role in the Netflix series Top Boy, has been charged with multiple serious offences, including two counts of rape and three counts of sexual assault. The charges stem from incidents that allegedly occurred in January 2023 involving the same woman, who cannot be named for legal reasons.
The Metropolitan Police confirmed that Ward, 27, from Cheshunt, Hertfordshire, is set to appear at Thames Magistrates’ Court on 28 August 2025. Detective Superintendent Scott Ware, who is overseeing the investigation, stated, “Our specialist officers continue to support the woman who has come forward - we know investigations of this nature can have a significant impact on those who make reports.”
Catherine Baccas, deputy chief crown prosecutor for CPS London South, added, “Having carefully reviewed a file of evidence, the Crown Prosecution Service has authorised the Metropolitan Police to charge Micheal Ward with two counts of rape, two counts of assault by penetration, and one count of sexual assault against a woman in January 2023.”
Ward, who was born in Spanish Town, Jamaica, and moved to Hackney, east London, at the age of four, has received critical acclaim for his performances in various projects. He won a BAFTA Rising Star award for his role in the 2019 film Blue Story and has also appeared in the BBC mini-series Small Axe and the upcoming film Eddington alongside Joaquin Phoenix and Pedro Pascal.
In a statement following the announcement of the charges, Ward denied the allegations, asserting, “I deny the charges against me entirely. I have co-operated fully with the police throughout their investigation and will continue to co-operate. I recognise that proceedings are now ongoing, and I have full faith that they will lead to my name being cleared.”
The Crown Prosecution Service has reminded the public that the proceedings are active and that Ward has the right to a fair trial. They emphasised the importance of avoiding any reporting or commentary that could prejudice the ongoing legal process.
