The Perlman Apartment complex, 150 units of affordable housing slated for the northeast corner of Main Street and Broadway, was moved forward by the Planning Commission last week after an at times impassioned discussion that included a motion to push the project back to a study session, and the withdrawal of the project by developers.

The project, which will be considered by the City Council on Aug. 5, follows the sale last year of multiple downtown City lots to The Vernon Group for mixed use and high-density residential construction, and consolidates the affordable housing requirements for all of the complexes per the city's agreement with the developer.
