Multiple shootings since Wednesday have left four people dead and 17 others injured, according to Atlanta police.

The violence comes as the Atlanta Police Department reported 32% fewer killings this year over the same time in 2024.

Homicide rates in the country’s largest cities are continuing to drop to levels last seen before the COVID-19 pandemic, according to a study released Thursday by the Council on Criminal Justice .

The national drop in homicides is around 17% this year compared to the same time last year.

While violence has declined in the city, Atlanta police Chief Darin Schierbaum told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution last week that city and community groups should work together to build de-escalation skills in society to help stem those conflicts.
