Environmental advocates and community members have been working to clean up the Bronx River for more than 50 years.

Now, they worry the federal Environmental Protection Agency may hinder that ongoing effort.

The Bronx River Alliance is suing the Trump administration over more than $1.5 million in cuts to its grant funding.

The nonprofit says that money is critical to continuing cleanup and maintenance of the Bronx River, as well as the connected Greenway developed over the years. A court date is tentatively scheduled for October.

"For one decision it was favorable then they appealed it so the EPA funding is frozen again," said Nilka Martell, chairperson of the Bronx River Alliance. "We don't know what decision is going to be made. But we are also thinking about what the state can do."
