After 22 months of war in which Israel has blocked most food and aid from going into Gaza, the starvation crisis gripping the region has reached the point of famine in its largest city, the world’s leading experts on food crises confirmed on Friday .
The Integrated Food Security Phase Classification, or IPC, said that there’s currently a famine in Gaza City, with at least half a million people experiencing starvation, acute malnutrition, and death. The organization, which is backed by the United Nations and other global humanitarian groups, also expects the famine to spread to the southern cities of Khan Younis and Deir al-Balah by the end of September unless there’s a cease-fire and Israel lifts its aid restrictions. The rest of Gaza’s nearly 2 million people are also suffering f
