PHOENIX — Arizona Sen. Ruben Gallego is stoking speculation about a potential 2028 run for president after adding New Hampshire to his summer travel schedule, another move that mirrors a presidential campaign playbook.

The freshman Democratic senator plans an Aug. 22 trip to New Hampshire, the state that traditionally hosts the first presidential primary. That comes after an Aug. 8 visit to the Iowa State Fair, to greet voters, size up barnyard animals, and sample any of the countless foods that can be eaten on a stick.

"He's making all the moves you would make if you were at least considering a run for president," said longtime Arizona political consultant Chuck Coughlin, chief executive officer of Phoenix-based HighGround Consulting.
