PHOENIX — President Donald Trump says he doesn’t want undocumented immigrants to be counted in the U.S. population anymore.

He’s calling on the Commerce Department to create a new census.

It's a historic demand from the President, considering the nation has counted every person in the U.S. Census for more than 230 years, dating back to 1790.

Some people call this another anti-immigrant attack from the President.

"I think the rhetoric is really overblown for the immigrant community," Rob McElwain said. "There's a lot of deep issues that are involved in this.”

"People who are in our country illegally will not be counted in the census," President Trump said in a social media post Thursday.

President Trump says these changes will ensure only American citizens are represented in Congress.
