Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office deputies on Sunday shot and killed a man in Mesa who came at them with a knife, authorities said.
MCSO received a call just before 9 p.m. July 27 regarding a man who was reportedly making suicidal statements at an apartment complex, 9860 E. Broadway Road in Mesa.
Deputies arrived and found the man, who has not been identified, armed with a knife. They told him to drop the weapon, but he continued to advance toward them, according to an MCSO release.
“When the suspect failed to comply with verbal commands and posed an imminent threat, deputies discharged their service weapons, striking the individual,” the release stated. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
No deputies were injured.
MCSO detectives have taken over the investigation, officials said.
