WASHINGTON (NEXSTAR) – Tuesday marks six months since the deadliest plane crash in more than two decades in the U.S. That's when an American Airlines plane and a military helicopter collided over the Potomac River just outside of Washington, D.C.
Leaders in Washington are introducing air travel safety reforms in honor of the victims.
Surviving family members joined lawmakers on Capitol Hill to endorse an aviation safety bill which will in part mandate all military aircraft broadcast their position, something that did not happen the night of the collision.
Doug Lane's wife and son were among the 67 killed when their American Airline flight collided with the military chopper.
"Safer skies is a victory for every family who has suffered an unimaginable lost,” said Lane.
