ST. PAUL — The special election to fill the seats of former state Sens. Bruce Anderson and Nicole Mitchell has been scheduled for Nov. 4, Gov. Tim Walz announced Tuesday, July 29.

The seats are in District 29, covering Buffalo and Monticello, and District 47, covering Woodbury. If necessary, special primary elections will be held Aug. 26, Walz’s office said. Affidavits of candidacy and nominating petitions must be filed by Aug. 6.

The special elections come after Mitchell’s resignation on July 25, following her felony burglary conviction, and after the unexpected death of longtime legislator Anderson on July 21. The Senate currently stands at a 33-32 Democratic majority.
