DARLINGTON COUNTY, S.C. (WBTW) -- Nearly two weeks after Darlington County's Pleasant Grove Baptist Church burned to the ground, civic and religious leaders are joining forces in calling on the community to help with a rebuild.
State Rep. Robert Williams, D-Darlington, is helping to lead the cause as well as press for answers about just what sparked the blaze which destroyed the 156-year-old sanctuary.
"You're talking about generations of people who are still there. Their offspring, usually when you attend a church like that, someone that started the church, they have offspring still in the area," Williams said at a Tuesday news conference.
All that remains from the July 19 fire are the smell of ashes and memories from nearly two centuries of service.
