DARLINGTON COUNTY, S.C. (WBTW) -- A Darlington County man has been arrested after a search warrant found 24 pit bulls with "scarring, open wounds, no food, inadequate housing and are restrained with heavy chains," arrest warrants show.

Michealus Jackson, 36, was arrested by the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division on Thursday. He was charged with animal fighting or baiting and ill treatment of animals.

A search warrant was conducted Thursday at a Hartsville-area property, warrants show. Authorities found 24 adult pit bulls and one pit bull puppy.

"The scarring and use of heavy logging chains are consistent with persons who fight dogs," the warrant reads.

Jackson was released from the W. Glenn Campbell Detention Center on Friday.
