KILLEEN, Texas (FOX 44) - A Killeen Police Department officer has been arrested and is charged with Assault with Bodily Injury.

The department received notification that the officer surrendered himself to the Bell County Jail on Tuesday for an outstanding warrant for Assault with Bodily Injury - Family Member. The arrest was a result of an off-duty incident investigated by the Temple Police Department.

Killeen Police say the department has opened an Internal Affairs investigation. The officer involved has been placed on paid administrative leave pending the outcome.

As a Civil Service agency, Killeen PD says it is required to follow the local Civil Service Rules, which outline due process procedures for handling misconduct allegations, including those related to an employee’s pay status
