SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) -- Major League Rugby announced Wednesday that the San Diego Legion and Rugby Football Club Los Angeles (RFCLA) will become one team.
Starting in 2026, the team will be a single, statewide professional rugby franchise named The California Legion, the rugby league confirmed.
“This is a unifying vision for the sport of rugby across California. We are fortunate to have a group of owners and advisors that have a shared vision,” said Adam Freier, CEO of The California Legion. “By combining resources, talent, and passion we will create a franchise that reflects the full potential of rugby in this state, from youth development to professional excellence.”
Home matches for The California Legion will be at multiple venues across San Diego, Los Angeles and Orange County.
