Health authorities have issued a 48-hour alert following a surge in cases of a condition that has claimed seven lives across England. The UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) has advised the public to remain vigilant for potential signs of Shiga toxin-producing Escherichia coli (STEC).
STEC represents a particular variant of E.coli which may trigger bloody diarrhoea, abdominal pain, and elevated temperature. Nevertheless, in certain instances, it can progress to fatal complications including sepsis and haemolytic uraemic syndrome (HUS).
