BOISE, Idaho — With summer in full force, orange cone season has arrived, bringing road construction across the Treasure Valley. But the work on Floating Feather Road in Eagle is happening because of a sinkhole.

The 3-foot wide sinkhole formed underneath the westbound lane of Floating Feather Road on Wednesday evening, according to the Ada County High District (ACHD). The sinkhole also extends 7 feet horizontally.

ACHD has closed the road between Eagle Road and Ballantyne Lane until further notice so its crews can investigate the damage more thoroughly and start permanent repairs.

Crews initially applied a temporary patch but later decided that the road needed to be closed.

Notably, the road closure applies to all vehicles, bicycles and pedestrians. ACHD suggested commuters use Ballan
