PORTAGE — A local real estate agent was left distraught, but otherwise unharmed after a man walked into her office this week, unfolded a "sizeable" knife and then rambled on about their future life together overseas, according to the incident report.

After attempting to call 911 only to have the man take her phone, Portage police said the woman found an opportunity to flee and used a second phone to call for help.

The 49-year-old Valparaiso-area man, who is not being named because of his extensive history with mental illness, was arrested and charged with robbery, intimidation, criminal confinement and interference with the reporting of a crime, records show.
