VALPARAISO — Bond was set this week at $1,500 cash for a Merrillville man charged with trafficking drugs into the Porter County Jail while working as a guard, records show.

Johnny Maynor, 50, appeared for an initial hearing Thursday before Porter Circuit Court Judge Rebecca Buitendorp and was placed on pretrial supervision while his case proceeds.

He is charged with two counts of trafficking with an inmate and official misconduct.

Maynor, a former officer at the jail, allegedly smuggled a drug known as "toon" into the facility between July 2024 and June 2025. Police say "toon" is a jailhouse drug created by soaking paper in liquid narcotics, which inmates then smoke or ingest.
