The August long weekend is here, marking the heart of summer and a chance to chill between Canada and Labour Day.

Here we celebrate it as B.C. Day, but it’s not listed as a federal statutory holiday so each province handles it differently. In Ontario, it’s simply the Civic Holiday, Alberta calls it Heritage Day and Manitoba observes it as Terry Fox Day. A few jurisdictions don’t mark the stat at all, including Quebec and Yukon. Bummer.

Whatever you call it, most businesses and workplaces across the country will be closed this year on Monday, Aug. 4, as people flock to beaches, parks, backyards and (lucky you) cabins to enjoy sun-soaked summer adventures.
