TYLER, Texas (KLTV) - Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) has introduced a bipartisan bill with the goal of improving and expanding federal weather radio, so emergency communications reach impacted areas in times of crisis.

This comes as Kerr County officials and the public are questioning the chain of communication between federal, state, and local officials during the July 4 flooding.

Sen. Cruz partnered with Sen. Maria Cantwell (D-Wash.) to reintroduce this bill. Sen. Cruz and Sen. Cantwell last introduced the bill in 2023. At the time, the bill passed the Senate, but it did not get out of committee in the House of Representatives.

This version of the bill contains provisions to set standards for emergency communications in flood-prone areas.
