The Mobile City Council is reviewing a plan to sell two properties worth more than $300,000 to the Mobile Area Mardi Gras Association (MAMGA) for $1 after the CEO of the Dearborn YMCA and a councilman scrutinized the deal earlier this week.

An ordinance introduced during the council’s regular meeting on Tuesday, July 29, states a half-acre lot at the intersection of North Washington Avenue and Congress Street directly behind the Dearborn YMCA, and a triangle-shaped, half-acre lot at the intersection of Lyons and Adams streets directly behind the Family Dollar store on Broad Street “are not now needed for public or municipal purposes” and should be sold to MAMGA “in the best interest of the city of Mobile and in the public interest.”
