GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — When Michigan native Kaila Kuhn takes flights, she prefers to be alone. Not on a plane — but on her skis, where she knows she’s in total command of her destiny.
“I’m terrified of airplanes,” Kuhn, a 2022 Winter Olympian, told NesNation local afllilate WOOD. “I think it’s a control thing. Just being up in a flying metal tube, something about it … it just makes me so uncomfortable.
“I'd rather fly by myself in the air, knowing I can land safely, then leave it up to somebody else,” she said.
Kuhn’s fear of flying has hardly affected her skiing ability. At the World Championships in March, she landed a triple flip and won, capturing gold medals in aerials and mixed team aerials and becoming the first competitor to win golds in a single edition of world freestyle
