WASHINGTON (NEXSTAR) - Republican state lawmakers in Texas are working to redraw the state's congressional map. It's an effort to gain five more seats in the House of Representatives and, Texas Sen. John Cornyn says, better represent voters.
"The truth is, Texas has changed and become redder and more Republican. Right now, the current congressional lines don't reflect that," Sen. Cornyn (R-Texas.) said.
The Texas Democratic congressional delegation is accusing the plan of racial gerrymandering.
"They're trying to suppress the voices of voters of color," Rep. Greg Casar (D-Texas.) said.
House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-N.Y.) even joined the delegation in Texas this week to voice his concerns.
