Former Colombian President Álvaro Uribe Vélez was sentenced to 12 years in prison for bribery in criminal proceedings and procedural fraud, according to local media reports.

The ruling by the 44th Criminal Circuit Judge of Bogotá, Sandra Heredia, was recorded in a 1.114-page document, which establishes the former president's criminal responsibility for the aforementioned crimes after a 13-year judicial process.

He was also barred from holding public office and fined more than $800.000, media reports said.

According to the information released, the former president will be placed under house arrest.
