One man was shot and another was injured during an altercation between family members west of Glen Alpine on July 29.

No charges had been filed as of Friday afternoon, the Burke County Sheriff’s Office said in a news release.

Wesley Wilson Whisenant, 28, was found suffering from a gunshot wound when deputies arrived at 2339 Conley Bumgarner Road on July 29, the release said.

Deputies also found Bobby Ray Allen Jr., 51. Allen had injuries from an apparent assault, the sheriff’s office said. Allen is Whisenant’s stepfather, the sheriff’s office said.

The sheriff’s office said the early investigation indicates that Allen shot Whisenant. The shooting happened following an altercation between Allen and Whisenant.
