Alabama Gov. Kay Ivey threw her support behind a Baldwin County state representative’s re-introduced legislation to allow the death penalty in cases of rape where the victim was younger than 12 years old.
Joined by State Sen. April Weaver, R-Brierfield; Alabama Attorney General Steve Marshall and Alabama Sheriffs Association Executive Director Huey “Hoss” Mack, Rep. Matt Simpson, R-Daphne, announced at a Montgomery press conference Thursday that he will file another attempt to punish cases of rape or sodomy involving children with death or life in prison, after his first bill to do so failed to earn a vote of final passage in the Alabama Senate in May.
