(FOX 5/KUSI) — The Padres' general manager, A.J. Preller, and the team's front office certainly weren't shy ahead of Thursday's 3 p.m. trade deadline, as the Friars addressed their weaknesses by making deals with five teams that had a total of 22 players on the move.

With 53 games left in the season, the Padres are second in the NL West, sporting a 60-49 record and sitting just three games behind the Los Angeles Dodgers.

The Padres traded away six of their top 15 prospects ahead of the deadline, using the young talent as bargaining chips to bolster their bullpen to prep for a playoff run immediately.

Perhaps with the onslaught of transactions Thursday, San Diego filled the holes needed to not only make a playoff run, but also capture the division and earn a trip to the World Series.
