SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) -- Newly-acquired pitcher Mason Miller brought the heat Friday against the St. Louis Cardinals for his first game as a Padre.

In the top of the eighth inning, the 26-year-old former Athletics closer hit a whopping 103 mph on the radar gun -- not too bad for his first strikeout as a member of the Friars.

Miller had Jordan Walker of the Cardinals swinging all air in that moment.

Miller pitched one inning and allowed two hits, while starting Padres pitcher Nick Pivetta lasted seven innings, only allowing one hit and recording five strikeouts.

Miller was part of a plethora of trades made by the Padres Thursday before the trade deadline. The Padres landed Miller as well as left-handed pitcher JP Sears from the Athletics.
